When the Empire Hook and Ladder Company vacated this firehouse, the owners of California Café enlisted SGS’ help to convert it to a full service restaurant.
The structure maintains its historic appearance while providing diners with a bright airy environment. The main overhead door of the firehouse was replaced with a wall of windows reflecting the original second floor windows.

Colors and details inside were selected to augment the bright, open atmosphere for the patrons.
This is a classic example of adaptive reuse, reclaiming one of the city’s historic structures and supporting downtown revitalization.
