Borough of Chambersburg Utility Department Addition – City Hall

Chambersburg, PA

SGS Architects Engineers, Inc. performed a needs analysis where we evaluated city hall and the police annex for future office space needs of the borough. the conclusion of the needs analysis was that the borough utility departments and police department needed additional, functional space.

The four-story office addition was located on Queen Street adjacent to the existing city hall. while not on the historic register, city hall is an important piece of the historic fabric of Chambersburg and the addition needed to complement the original architecture. Elements of the existing facility were incorporated into the Queen Street façade.

While complementing the architectural elements along Queen Street, the design contains a modern, accessible entrance off a plaza adjacent to the public parking.

In addition to office areas, there is a community room on the fourth floor. the focal point of the first floor is the public lobby and the relocated council chambers.

Phase 2 of this project consists of the renovation of a portion of the existing city hall for an expanded police department.
