Hirschmann Automation and Control, Inc. is a company that specializes in the production and distribution of automation and networking systems and components. The company, based in Germany, wished to construct new facilities in Chambersburg, PA.
Working with the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation, property owner, the design-build team of SGS and Brechbill & Helman Construction Company was selected to manage the project, which consists of a 20,000 square foot office building and an attached 15,000 square foot warehouse, and distribution area.
At the direction of the owner, the design followed LEED guidelines. Numerous green items were incorporated into the project, including the use of no/low VOC products, native landscaping, and the use of materials from recycled products. Energy usage reduction was achieved with efficient lighting, motion sensors, and a multiple zone HVAC system with sophisticated controls.
A two and one half story atrium, flooded from all sides with natural light, creates an inviting welcome to the company’s two story office.
Ribbon windows provide additional day light. The exterior features local natural stone veneer with recycled horizontal insulated metal panels.
The interior was designed for efficient office layout while providing the company with maximum flexibility in an ever changing market.
